Gedo Senki, Tales from Earthsea (movie)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0495596/

One cannot criticize a movie until he had seen it. So I stopped by a movie theater and bought the ticket to enter the world of Earthsea. As I expected, the world I entered was definetly neither the one depicted by Ursula Le Guin, nor the one similar to the precendent worlds created by Hayao Miyazaki(宮崎 駿), father of the director, Goro Miyazaki(宮崎 吾郎).

Ursula Le Guin had already said that though she liked the movie (maybe just a compliment in polite), the settings of this film were still far from the ideas of her original novels. (Earthsea had been adapted to TV movies by SF channel in 2004, but Le Guin detested the adpataion for many reasons. It seems hard to cater for her taste... .)

In my opinion, this movie was a major failure of Ghibli Studio. The plot was awful (if there was a plot!), the characters are in lack of character. The worst of all, it showed no delicate drawing from the beginning to the end.

Don't waste your time. Just read the novels. (And grandma Le Guin will be happy!)
